And this week, in Eretz DC Yerushalaim:
🎶 [song lyric – paste manually] 🎶

Tomorrow we will read in Parashat Vayeshev:
“Jacob settled in his father's land, the land of Canaan” (12),
about the importance of dreams- then and now.
The parasha opens with Joseph sharing his dreams with his father Jacob (who, himself, is quite an expert in the field).
Jacob reacts with anger:
“Shall we indeed come, your mother, your brothers, and I to bow down to you to the ground?!”
🎶 [song lyric – paste manually] 🎶
The next day, Joseph finds his brothers.
They mock him: “Here comes that dreamer!”
and cast him into a pit.
From that lowest point, Joseph is sold to Egypt,
where he shatters the “dream” of Potiphar’s wife
and is therefore thrown into prison.
🎶 [song lyric – paste manually] 🎶
Even in prison, Joseph does not stop, he evolves.
He interprets the dreams of the chief cupbearer and the baker.
But instead of continuing to dream, he turns to an interested intermediary
and as punishment, receives another portion of suffering:
“Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph he forgot, him.”

And us?
Despite “A wild beast has devoured him Ran Gvili is surely torn”
we are still saying: “It is our brother we are seeking.”
But wait, let us plan, or perhaps daydream:
when he returns (very soon),
is there something we ourselves are dreaming of?
And if so would we dare to say it out loud,
from here in DC, to the entire world?
I’ll throw out an idea; just as our forefathers, the visionaries of the nation, said:
“May our eyes behold Your return to Zion.”
This week, when we light the flames of the Menorah
(the one that once stood in the Temple in Jerusalem,
and became the symbol of our state),
are we lighting it as a memory of days gone by?
Or as a dream for the future for our time?
As our ambassador said this week:
The Bible Museum is an oxymoron.
On one hand- a museum, something of the past.
On the other- we are Israel, living proof that the Bible is alive and enduring.

In the photo: my father, may he live long, on THE Balcony of Vision, overlooking the Menorah mosaic from Kibbutz Nir Am, located at our embassy.
A dream-filled Shabbat 🤩
