למרות מאמר השיר, השבוע צה"ל חילץ מעפר והחזיר את רן גואילי כמו שנאמר;

this week in Eretz DC Yerushalaim:
A bit long but 🎶 [song lyric – paste manually] 🎶 it will be worth it.

🎶 [song lyric – paste manually] 🎶
🎶 [song lyric – paste manually] 🎶
we read the Torah portion 'Beshalach'
"When Pharaoh sent out the people.”
about women who fight for peace
(avoidance of war and the destruction of the enemy)
The portion opens with an extreme avoidance of war:
"…that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines perhaps the people will reconsider when they see war.”
🎶 [song lyric – paste manually] 🎶

The Children of Israel avoid fighting.
But the Egyptians insist, pursue them,
and drown in the sea.
You asked for a Flood? You got one.
The portion ends with a sudden confrontation:
"Amalek came and battled Israel in Rephidim"
And how does Israel respond to the surprise attack?
"Joshua weakend Amalek and it's people with the sword's blade.. that I shall surely erase the memory of Amalek from under the heavens"
In direct continuation of the Song of the Sea, led by Miriam with drums and dancing,
the Haftarah describes the heroism of “the Hebrew women, for they are beasts.” 🐝🐏
“Deborah, a prophetess, a fiery woman,”
sits between Ramah (3) and Bethel (26),
goes out to Mount Tabor (40),
and leads Israel to victory over the Canaanite army.
Sisera, the commander, flees and seeks political asylum in the tent of Yael.
But Yael knows how to end wars:
“She drove the peg into his head and he died.”

And yet, despite the song’s words, this week the IDF brought Ran Gvili back from the sand, as it is written:
“Moses took the bones of Joseph with him… for he had made them swear: you shall surely bring up my bones.”
And now the great question:
What comes next?
How do we bring the day that will bring peace?
Will we win the war and erase the memory of the enemy from under the heavens,
as the Haftarah concludes:
“So may all Your enemies perish and the land have rest for forty years”
(at the very least)?
Or is it instead:
“A war against Amalek, from generation to generation”?
And how will we know that peace has arrived?
Perhaps when we can finally fulfill the purpose of the Exodus from Egypt, as written in the Song of the Sea:
"bring and implant them them to the mount of your heritage the foundation of your dwelling place that you God have made, the Temple God, that your hands established"
Have a Peaceful (singing) Shabbat
