Shalom

ENGLISH

And this week, Eretz DC Yerushalaim:
There shall be Shalom in the End of Days

Tomorrow we will read Parashat Vayechi “And Jacob Lived”
about blessings that came true
and prophecies still awaiting UN approval to be fulfilled.

Jacob lies on his deathbed and blesses all his descendants.

In honor of the visit of our Prime Minister, Benjamin,
we will focus on four of them known as the “West Bank”.

Samaria:
“May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.”

And Judah:
“Judah, your brothers shall praise you. your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies.
your father’s sons shall bow before you.”

These are the blessings, now let’s see if they came true.

This week it was announced that prayer is permitted again at Joseph’s Tomb,
located in the inheritance of the firstborn, Manasseh.
just as Joseph requests at the end of the parashah:
“I am about to die, and God will surely remember you,
and you shall carry up my bones from here
to the land He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”

What about the blessing to Judah?

In the Haftarah we read about the first king from the tribe of Judah,
who also, on his deathbed, transfers the kingdom to his son Solomon,
after 33 years of reign in Jerusalem.

Wait, deathbed? How did he become king?
Ahh… that you’ll see in the cinema.
a film about him was released this week.. A must!

So the blessings were fulfilled
what about the prophecy?

Jacob opens with an unclear line:
“Gather yourselves, and I will tell you
what will happen at the End of Days.”
What will happen then?
That, he does not say.

Luckily for us, the UN building quotes Isaiah:
“in the End of Days
the mountain of the House of the Lord
shall be established at the top of the mountains,
and all nations shall flow unto it.
And many peoples shall say:
Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the House of the God of Jacob…
For the law will go out of Zion
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem…
And they shall beat their swords into plowshares.. Nation shall not lift sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore."

With the prayer that this week
we may copy the great funeral that Jacob has,
“and we shall carry up the bones”
Of our brother Ran Gvili,
as the song says:
🎶 [song lyric – paste manually] 🎶

And until then?

The nations: they flowed, they spoke,
they made a film about the origin of the Star of David
the one on the flag 🇮🇱

And us?
What shall we dare to say now?
Will we dare to speak about David who ruled in Jerusalem?

After all, this past Tuesday we fasted for it..
(yes, also the General Kaddish Day for Holocaust victims).

And perhaps if we speak here,
Then the prophecy will be fulfilled: “beat our swords into plowshares
and learn war no more.”

Shabbat Shalom
